InterAction seeks an entry-level Program Associate to support the Civil Society Program within InterAction’s Global Development, Policy, and Learning Practice. The Civil Society Program seeks to bolster nonprofit support for civil society as a vital component of humanitarian and development assistance efforts. Around the world, the space for civil society to operate effectively and deliver programs and services is closing. While this is not new, the phenomenon is now affecting an unprecedented number of people across the development and humanitarian spectra: children, women, and men who seek only their basic human rights relating to security, prosperity, dignity, and self-determination.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide administrative and research support to InterAction staff working on the Civil Society Program;
- Track proposed pieces of U.S. legislation that may impact civil society space;
- Track federal regulation and compliance mandates that impact civil society space;
- Help coordinate nonprofit advocacy and education outreach efforts toward policymakers, members of congress, and congressional staff;
- Seek and consolidate input from InterAction members in efforts to develop and distribute advocacy and educational material pertaining to civil society space;
- Provide administrative support to the Vice President of Global Development, Policy, and Learning;
- Help InterAction’s Public Policy team at key moments of advocacy campaigns;
- Provide administrative support for InterAction events and meetings; and,
- Other duties as desired or assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications Required:
· Bachelors Degree in political science, international relations, or a related field;
· Experience working as part of a team and facilitating cross team collaboration;
· Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software;
· Strong professional character and ethical values; and,
· Strong commitment to InterAction mission and values.
Qualifications Desired:
· Experience in organizing and supporting workshops and meetings;
· Experience and interest in coordinating stakeholders around common objectives;
· Knowledge of international issues, particularly those related civil society space;
· Previous internship experience on Capitol Hill or with congressional advocacy; and,
· Experience and interest in advocacy and communications strategy development and implementation.
