About the Position:

Are you an experienced advocate for children and youth capable of advancing related policies and issues by navigating Washington DC politics to work across partisan divides with a diverse set of individuals and organizations? Are you a big believer in the power of coalition advocacy and its effectiveness? Do you care deeply about elevating the profile and potential of children and youth around the world? InterAction is seeking an experienced team member to contribute to our policy work by advancing the sophistication and effectiveness of our advocacy efforts in areas related to children and youth internationally. Key aspects of this role include: representing and coordinating closely with InterAction’s members working on these issues across a wide range of topics spanning health, education, conflict and more; contributing meaningfully to conversations and strategies (within our coalition and with other organizations and networks) for promoting the welfare of children as a whole, and managing related grants and staff.

This position resides within InterAction’s division of Global Development Policy and Learning and reports to the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs. The incumbent will provide guidance and coordination to InterAction members on global child and youth issues, project and budget management, and engagement with the U.S. Government and a broader array of partners. To be successful, s/he must be a team player, problem-solver, and active proponent of children and youth around the world.

Essential Functions: **

· Provide vision, direction and coordination to InterAction members on educating policy makers and advancing policy reforms related to children and youth;

· Promote a “whole child approach” across InterAction’s work streams;

· Build and manage relationships with policy advocates of InterAction NGO members to shape and advance the community’s strategic goals and advocacy efforts relating to child policy and associated U.S. government budgets across many specific sectors and activities;

· Coordinate and drive the work of the Children and Youth Working Group, with member co-chairs;

· Liaise with policymakers in Congress and the Executive Branch focusing on policies related to children and youth;

· Work seamlessly with other members of InterAction’s Public Policy Team and provide input on child policy and work closely with other team members on relevant policy issues;

· Grant management, including managing the budget, associated staff, consultants, partner activities, engaging with donors, and meeting grant requirements;

· Represent InterAction on children and youth issues at events and working-level meetings with InterAction members, donors, foundations, partner countries and civil society organizations;

· Liaise with other coalitions and organizations working closely on children and youth issues;

· Contribute to strategic planning and fundraising efforts to maintain and expand related areas of work;

· Support other InterAction teams, working groups and initiatives as needed and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs.

Qualifications Required:

· At least 7 years of professional experience, with significant exposure to public policy, advocacy and government relations;

· Demonstrated interest and commitment to children and youth globally and familiarity with core issues facing children and youth;

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to manage relationships with InterAction members, partners and other external stakeholders;

· Facilitation and coalition-building skills, as well as demonstrated experience managing or working with multi-partner initiatives;

· Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with an ability to effectively communicate on technical or complex topics to non-experts as well as to experts;

· Excellent organizational skills and a proven ability to lead and prioritize projects while meeting deadlines;

· Demonstrated experience with project management and budget management;

· Established network of bipartisan relationships with Congress, the Executive Branch and other key policy stakeholders;

· Significant work experience or deep familiarity with the NGO community, particularly the children and youth advocacy community and associated networks active in Washington, DC.

· The ability to proactively anticipate as well as respond to the needs of members of InterAction;

· Highly motivated team player;

· Proficiency with Microsoft 365; and

· Demonstrated commitment to InterAction’s core values and mission.

Qualifications Highly Valued:

· Experience with 6-figure grant and/or budget management;

· Experience working in Congress or the executive branch work experience;

· Demonstrated experience in development and humanitarian advocacy;

· Experience with children and youth policy

· Experience working and living in one or more developing countries;

· Demonstrated interest in promoting inclusion and engaging diverse actors;

· Demonstrated capacity to create and maintain professional networks;

· An advanced degree combined with demonstrated academic focus on public policy and

· A sense of humor.

Base Salary and Benefits:

$80,000 - $85,000 and excellent benefits package
